Region Logging

The hud can record a log of regions that you pass through during a patrol. The Region Log menu has the following options…

Start Log           Start recording region entries
Stop Log            Stop recording region entries
List Regions      List the current regions that have been entered
Clear Log           Clear the list of entries
Main Menu        Return to the main menu

When region logging is off, the region log panel is light red. The panel contains text that tells you region logging is off, and how many regions are currently stored in the list.

When you switch region logging on (Start Log), the panel changes to green and says that logging is on. When logging is started, it will immediately add an entry for the region you are currently in.

As you move around, entering new regions, the hud outputs text like this into local chat…
———————
[14:32]  ZM Navmaster HUD v1.03: Blake Sea – Mainbrace
———————

If you then wish to investigate something during your patrol, you can add notes in local chat, something like this…
———————
[14:32]  ZM Navmaster HUD v1.03: Blake Sea – Mainbrace
[14:34]  Nomad Zamani: Abandoned rowing boat found adrift. Owner notified.
———————

As you proceed, adding notes as needed, you can build up a record of what happened on the patrol, with the hud providing the location info automatically. This body of information can then be referred to when compiling your report.

To get a list of only the region names, to show what regions were covered during the patrol, you don’t have to edit the chat log notes. Instead, use the List Regions command in the Region Log menu to get a clean list of just the region names that can be copied and pasted into your report in one step. The List Regions option brings up a menu with two options…

Line By Line    Lists the regions with each region on its own line.
Comma List      Lists the regions in one long line, separated by commas.

The Line By Line listing looks like this…
———————
[15:10]  ZM Navmaster HUD v1.03: Region list, part 1:
Blake Sea – Bowsprit
Blake Sea – Mainbrace
Blake Sea – Indefatigable
Blake Sea – Atlantic

List completed.

And the Comma List version looks like this…
———————
[15:10]  ZM Navmaster HUD v1.03: Region list, part 1:
Blake Sea – Bowsprit, Blake Sea – Mainbrace, Blake Sea – Indefatigable, Blake Sea – Atlantic.

List completed.

The chat window in the SL viewer limits input to 1024 bytes at a time. If the region list is longer than this, the hud splits the list into chunks, called part 1, part 2, etc, to prevent the list from being truncated. When splitting a comma list, the last entry for each block ends with a comma and a space, except for the last block, which ends with a full stop. This minimses the amount of text editing if you wish to combine the blocks into one for your report.
To clear the log of all region names, pick Clear Log from the menu.
